With our roots firmly entrenched in predominantly Californian street wear we thought it only right to give a nod to the past and introduce some reproduction vintage skate decks. We got our resident retro skate expert to choose four companies and four decks that represent the skate scene from 'back in the day'!
Dogtown Skateboards grew out of the Santa Monica and Venice areas of California to cement it's place in skateboarding history. Founded by Jim Muir & Wes Humpsten in the late 1970's,many of the worlds best and most stylish street skaters of the the period have ridden for Dogtown. These include Aaron 'Fingers' Murray,Scott Oster and Eric Dressen; 'Nuff said.
Powell Peralta is an American skateboard company founded by George Powell and Stacey Peralta in 1978. The company rose to prominence in the 1980s as skateboarding began maturing as a sport. Stacey Peralta developed the Bones Brigade, a team of the era's top competitors including Tony Hawk,Steve Caballero & Rodney Mullen. Peralta left the company in 1991 and Powell continued to produce skateboard equipment as Powell and Bones Bearings. The two company founders reunited to produce the company's now classic inventory under the name Powell Classic.
Santa Cruz Skateboards was started in 1973 by Northern California surfers, Rich Novak, Doug Haut and Jay Shuirman when they formed NHS Inc. to manufacture decks,Independant Trucks and also publish legendary 80's skateboard magazine Thrasher. Quality board manufacture and Jim Phillips' amazing graphics coupled with pro team members such as Steve Olsen,Jason Jessee & Steve Alba to name a few, ensured that Santa Cruz have been one of the driving forces of skateboarding throughout the last four decades.
Vision Skateboards was founded by Brad Dorfman and came to prominence in the 1980's with the rise of vert and street skating across the globe. He quickly expanded the brand with the promotion and development of Vision Streetwear clothing and the buy-out of Sims Skateboards. Team members included Tom Groholski,Mark 'Gator' Rogowski and street skating legend Mark Gonzalez.
